Highway Bureau, MOTC
The Highway Bureau is committed to provincial highway engineering, highway transportation management and highway supervision, simplifying administration and facilitating the people. The business scope is divided into three categories: road engineering, road transportation and road supervision, providing convenient and safe services for the public.
Service Items
      Automobile (general small vehicles)
      1. One general automobile driving license registration form with approved health examination and physical fitness test (it shall be done at public hospitals or hospitals appointed by highway supervision authority and within the one-year validity).
      2. Three one-inch color photos with glossy single-color background, without wearing hat, with clear facial features, bust shot, and were taken within past 2 years. Do not use image synthesis.
      3. Identity documents:( At least 18 years old and hold one of the following documents:)
        (1) Nationals: National I.D. card or another valid driving license.
        (2) Foreigners, people from Mainland China or nationals without household registration in the Taiwan area must submit proof of staying permit or alien residence permit for more than 6 months.
        (3) Residences in Hong Kong or Macau should submit the proof of alien residence permit for more than 6 months or entry/exit permit with a validity of more than 6 months.
        (4) Diplomats and their dependents: Other than submitting the staff pass, they should also submit the official letter of applying for driving license test issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
      4. Proof of driving experience: with a learner’s permit for more than three months.
      5. Fees:
      6. (1) Registration fee NT$450 (NT$225 for those who carry out re-test within one year).
        (2) Advanced for only sit for one subject of written exam or road test: NT$225.
        (3) The fuel used for road test will be charged additionally. (The fee will be waived if the applicant uses their own vehicle).
      7. Exam subjects: Written test (traffic regulations) and road test.
      8. Notes:
        (1) Driving license test can be carried out after paying off the overdue fines from the traffic violations. If applying for installments of fines, the highway supervision authority shall remark the registration of vehicle driving license test after paying the 1st installment of fines.
        (2) Vehicle registration certificate shall be submitted if you bring your own vehicle.
        (3) The vehicle registration certificate of the vehicle you brought shall be within the expiration.
        (4) If you want to bring your own vehicle, please make sure the wheelbase of the private passenger vehicle is more than 230 cm.
